4 Dragons advance to D10 wrestling tourney

MEADVILLE — Four Dragons advanced to this weekend’s District 10 2A Wrestling Championships at Sharon High School.

While Warren didn’t have a Section 1 champion on Saturday, it nearly had six D10 qualifiers as two lost their seventh vs. eighth matches.

The top seven in each weight class on Friday and Saturday at Meadville Area Senior High School advanced to districts.

Junior Adika Fiscus came closest to a Class 2A Section 1 crown for Warren with an 11-5 loss in the 114 final to North East’s Rocky Kowle, who Fiscus lost to earlier this season.

Fiscus (22-8) started with a 16-0 technical fall over Eisenhower’s Shawn Miller before punching his ticket to Sharon with a 6-1 decision of Titusville’s Sawyer Wolfkiel in the semifinals.

In addition to Fiscus, freshmen Trey Carrington and Ethen Ringer finished fourth in their respective weight classes to advance, and Ryan Fitzsimmons was fifth.

Carrington (16-10) entered sectionals with four straight wins, and he was 2-2 in Sharon, including a 4-3 decision over General McLane’s Ethan Snyder to advance at 127.

Ringer (16-9) was also 2-2 with two pins at 139 pounds. He pinned Titusville’s Coleman Huck in 3:46to qualify for districts.

Fitzsimmons, a senior, was 2-2 with two decisions at 121. He earned a 3-2 decision over Girard’s Levi Friend to finish fifth.

Junior Connor Zaffino was eliminated 2-1 by Union City’s Hunter Michael in the seventh-place match at 145 pounds. Sophomore heavyweight Tyson Harkins was pinned in the third period in his seventh-place match with North East’s Joshua Hirtzel.
