Warren swept by McDowell at YMCA

McDowell won every relay and downed the Warren girls swim team, 104-82, on Monday at the Warren YMCA.
Warren’s boys team was outmanned in a 129-17 loss.
In addition to a 1-2 finish by freshmen divers Kinzlea Chase and Gracie Page, sophomore Lilly Newton won the 50-meter freestyle by .04 — 30.31 seconds to 30.35 for McDowell’s Claire Gebhardt.
Samantha Caudill and Katie Krogler finished 1-2 in the 400 free in a three-way fight to the finish. Caudill won in 5:12.03 to Krogler’s 5:12.81, and McDowell’s Kara Hoffman was third in 5:12.94.
Gebhardt beat Warren’s Madeline Walker in the 100 backstroke, 1:16.25 to 1:17.09.
In another close race, Warren’s Krogler won the 200 free (2:26.14 to 2:26.45) by a half second over McDowell’s Hoffman.
Other second-place finishes for Warren went to Jennifer Giger in the 100 butterfly, Violet Spiegel in the 109 breaststroke, and Caudill in the 200 individual medley.
For the Warren boys, Drake Niemetz won the 100 free in 58.18 seconds over McDowell’s Gavin Berquist (58.49). He was second in the 50 free. Teammate Brody Alexander was second in the 400 free.
