The Eisenhower girls basketball team evened its record at 5-5 Monday night, visiting Girard 57-16.

Eisenhower sophomore Lainey Font came out on fire for the Lady Knights as she drained four 3-pointers in the first quarter to allow her team to get a quick lead. Behind Font and sophomore Clara Steinberg, who had four of her game-high 28 points in the opening quarter, opened up a 16-5 lead.

Eisenhower never looked back after that as Steinberg led the way in the second quarter scoring 9 of the team’s 16 points. Morgan Zaffino drained a 3-pointer to close out the period. At halftime, the hosts led 32-9.

Lady Knights coach DJ Steinberg was impressed with his team’s defense.

“I thought they all had a solid game and forced a ton of turnovers tonight,” he said.

Eisenhower slowed down the pace of the game and concentrated on their defense after the break as it held Girard to just five points in the quarter. Steinberg led the way offensively with 9 points in the quarter.

“We are hard to defend when Clara and Lainey Font are on top of their game,” Coach Steinberg said. “Girard just could not stop them tonight.”

Steinberg took scoring honors with 28 points while Font had another solid game with 17 points and five 3-point baskets. Girard was led by Leah Pratt with 5 points.

The Lady Knights are back in action on Thursday as they travel to Iroqouis.
