Youngsville boys down Smethport
SHEFFIELD — Youngsville put together one of its best shooting performances of the season, winning the consolation game of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Holiday Tournament on Thursday.
Rebounding from a loss to Sheffield in the tournament opener a day earlier, the Eagles were a 61-41 winner over the Smethport Hubbers.
Youngsville canned 10 3-pointers during Thursday’s dominant victory, including four from Nathan Lucks and Rylan Benton and one each from Ethan Beers and Hudson Haight.
Lucks outscored the Hubbers by himself in the opening quarter, finishing with 10 points to Smethport’s 7. Benton was key in the first-half offensive onslaught that gave the Eagles a 33-14 edge at intermission.
Lucks hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the opening moments of the third quarter to snuff out any chance of a Hubbers’ comeback and Youngsville’s lead swelled to as much as 29 late in the third quarter.
Benton finished with a game-high 24 points and Lucks netted 21. Haight and Beers had 5 points each and Cash Moore, Rodney Rowland and Josh Pikna also scored for the winners.
