SHEFFIELD — Isiah Colon rocketed Titusville past Sheffield on Tuesday night, scoring 31 points, in a 60-45 win inside Ralph J. Santo gymnasium.

Colon, who scored the first points of the game, hitting a shot from behind the arc seconds into the first quarter, would drop four more from beyond the arc and go 6 of 6 at the line over the course of the night.

“Number two (Colon) is a great athlete,” said Sheffield head coach Jordan Copley. “He’ll shoot anywhere at any time. We did a lot of switching tonight. We tried to give them multiple looks. Tried to throw different looks at them. The score doesn’t do justice. I thought we did fairly well in certain stretches.”

Sheffield was able to battle back after trailing 8-2 early on to pull within three following an Allen Eaton buzzer beater to end the first quarter, 15-12. The Rockets were able to keep Eaton in check the remainder of the game, holding the sophomore shooter to just his 5 first quarter points.

Leihden Wotorson scored 5 of his 7 second-quarter points in the final three minutes, while the Wolverines were able to hold the Rockets to one point during that span. Sheffield again was able to claw back within four to close out the half, 26-22.

Despite the hustle and fight, the missed shots continued to plague the Wolverines in the second half, getting outscored 34-23 while Colon pulled his Rockets away.

“Again, down the stretch we made mistakes that really gave them important baskets that made that separation,” said Copley. “It’s in those moments that we got to dig down deeper and execute better on defense to turn the tide in our favor.”

Sheffield went 5 of 14 from the free throw line and 3 of 19 from beyond the arc. Despite the shots not falling, Copley is confident in the attempts and hopes the Wolverines continue to play aggressively.

“We got to do better at the line,” said Copley. “I’ll be honest with you; we’re going to just keep shooting the basketball in general. That’s what we need to do to win games. Not every night is your best night, but I have the utmost confidence in all these guys to take the shots that are needed to be taken, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Wotorson led the Wolverines with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Dylan Hardwick also had seven rebounds to go with his 9 points. Colby Barr pulled down 10 rebounds. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 2-3 and will travel to Cranberry on Friday.
