Sheffield wrestlers suffer 48-24 loss to Central Clarion

Sheffield lost its second meet in a row Wednesday, falling to Central Clarion 48-24 on the road.

Following a forfeit at 120 to start, the Wolverines dropped their next three matches, until senior Chase Kyler was able to put up the Wolverines first points of the night, taking out Seth Weckerly at 137 in the first period via pinfall.“I’m feeling good,” said Kyler who recorded his second pinfall following a rough start to the season. “It’s definitely refreshing getting back-to-back wins after Hickory, but I’m trying not to focus that much on the regular season. The postseason is what matters most.”Down 13-6, the match of the night, according to Sheffield head coach Tom Holden, between junior Alex Marfink and Wildcats’ Brendon Wright at 145, pulled the Wolverines within one. Marfink found himself down in the first period 3-2, before scoring four in the second and one in the third to pull out the win 7-2.“I’m feeling great,” said Marfink. “It was a really good match. I just kept good control and I did everything at my pace. It’s really awesome to have two wins in a row. I have to work on some control on top more and hopefully many more wins to come. I’m excited for our first home match next week. It’s going to be a good match.”The Wolverines pulled ahead 18-13 on the back of a Christian Evers pin at 152, before Central Clarion’s Jacob Henry was able to tech fall Zach Barnes at 160 to pull even. Colten Keihl defeated Chris Garcia in a close 9-8 match, which was followed by Trenton Mead pinning his opponent Rudy Shetler at 189 to once again leave the two teams tied, 24-24. Mead would be the last Wolverine win on the night, however, with Central Clarion winning the final four matches.

Sheffield will host Oswayo Valley next Tuesday.
