Scrappy Knights earn 2nd victory
ERIE — Eisenhower used a balanced scoring attack to secure its second win of the season Tuesday night, defeating a scrappy Iroqouis team 55-50.
The Knights scored the first 6 points of the game, led 17-11 after the first quarter and 26-20 at halftime. The Braves came out with a hot shooting hand after the break, attacking Eisenhower from the perimeter and outscoring the Knights 16-9 in the quarter to take a one-point lead 36-35 entering the final eight minutes.
The fourth quarter went back and forth with the Braves leading most of the way. The Knights found themselves down by eight points with four minutes remaining, but steals by Case Seymour and Austin Hansen helped them to close the gap sophomore Gavin Lindemuth drilled a 3-pointer deep in the corner to cut the lead to 50-46.
Eisenhower went to a full-court press and a foul by the Braves sent Kyler Black to the line. He made both attempts, cutting the lead to 50-48. Hanson stole the inbounds pass and found senior Kris Bunk underneath to tie the score 50-50 with 1:05 left.
The Braves missed a 3-point shot and fouled Seymour where he made both of his free throws to put the Knights up 52-50. Bunk went to the line on a Braves foul and sank one of his two free throws to give Eisenhower a three-point lead with 16 seconds left. After a Braves’ timeout, Hansen stole the inbounds pass and was quickly fouled where he made both of his free throws to give the Knights the lead 55-50.
“I was proud of our guys tonight,” Eisenhower coach Ryan Mangini said. “They kept their effort high when Iroqouis took the lead, they never stopped hustling. I thought Austin (Hansen) did a great job handling their pressure. Rebounding for us was a team effort. Just a great comeback win, and on the road, I’ll take it.”
The Braves were led by Roman Caporale with 18 points while the Knights were led by Hansen with 13 points.
In JV action, the Knights fell to the Braves 55-32. Eisenhower was led by Will Mandeville, who tallied 11 points.
