Ike wrestling has plenty of talent to replace

The Eisenhower wrestling team will have some rebuilding to do as they lost Brok English, Benji Bauer and Michael Vanatta to graduation.

But head coach Jared Lindell feels the Knights will be able to compete this season.

“We need to get our young wrestlers the opportunity to develop and gain some experience,” he said. “I would like to get some guys to Hershey this year.”

The team will be anchored by sectional champ Tucker Lindell and Griffin Williams, who both qualified for regionals last year. They also bring back JJ Darr, Ryan Chambers, Derek Childs and Cole Kellogg, but make no mistake the Knights are a young team with nine freshmen and sophomores vying to get on the mat.

“I’m pleased with the effort these younger athletes are giving,” Coach Lindell said. “Aiden Nichols has had a nice camp, he is fun to watch and has the potential to surprise some people.”

He will get an early opportunity to gauge his team.

“Corry could be the region champions and will certainly be a tough match for us, but with Titusville right after them (and) if we can be competitive against them that will certainly be a good test for our young wrestlers,” Coach Lindell said.

The Knights will make a bit of history this season as they have three girls on the team and two brother/sister combinations in JJ Darr and his sister, Abby; and Tucker Lindell and his sister, Brynn.

“It’s great to have three girls on the team this year,” Coach Lindell said.
