Despite a winless season with 32 of 43 on the roster being underclassmen, Warren seniors Tommy Nyquist and Eric Dippold have been named Region 4 football all-stars.

Both returning all-stars by a vote of the region’s coaches, Nyquist was named to the second team as an all-purpose back. Dippold was named to the second team at quarterback.

Nyquist missed half the season due to an ankle injury, but still accounted for 462 total yards on 97 carries and 19 receptions.

Prior to Warren’s rebuilding year his senior year, Nyquist was a major contributor in three straight five-win seasons. In his high school career, he had 2,410 yards rushing and 892 receiving, including close to 400 return yards. He scored 26 touchdowns — 19 on the ground, six through the air, and one punt return. Oh, and he had two touchdown passes.

“Tommy has been one of the best players in D10,” said Warren coach Cody Bupp. “Unfortunately, he had an injury that cut his senior year short. This recognition goes to show his work ethic and determination to get back and make an impact in the final four games and recognition by other coaches in the region.

“For Eric, it’s a good way to end his senior campaign,” said Bupp. “He was a consistent leader and voice in our locker room. Eric established himself as a sophomore and was on every defensive game plan to try and slow down each week.”

Dippold finished his senior campaign with 824 yards passing and five touchdowns and seven interceptions. For his career at quarterback, Dippold finished with 3,593 yards passing in three seasons with 34 touchdowns and 34 interceptions, along with four rushing touchdowns. He also caught a 47-yard touchdown pass.

“Each would tell you they couldn’t do it without their teammates,” said Bupp. “Both of them played a ton of football for us the last three years and are going to be hard to replace next season.”
