Shippee named to Region 3 second team

Warren Area High School had a girls golf team for the first time in many years, and freshman Kate Shippee advanced to the District 10 3A Championships.

Now, Shippee has been named a Region 3 all-star based on season stroke averages.

Warren’s girls golf team was made up of four juniors, two sophomores and Shippee. She is one of only three Region 3 freshmen to qualify for the D10 tourney. The top 10 by region averages automatically advanced to districts.

On day one of the two-day district championships, Shippee missed the cut by one shot.

“Kate being named a region all-star is a testament of all the hard work she put in this season,” said Warren coach Nate Sandberg. “The sky is the limit for her and I am looking forward to what else she will accomplish during her high school career.”

Shippee was 10th by average (51.4 strokes over nine holes) in the four-team Class 3A Region 3. The top four by average and five of the 10 automatic D10 3A qualifiers were from region and D10 champion McDowell.
