Warren girls play for D10 title on Wednesday
While the opponent was pre-determined, Warren’s girls soccer team will look for a repeat of the District 10 3A title on Wednesday.
The Lady Dragons (8-9) will play Meadville (5-13) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fort LeBoeuf High School.
Technically, Meadville and Oil City opted out of the D10 playoffs a year ago, but the Dragons advanced to the PIAA 3A girls soccer playoffs for the fourth straight season. Warren lost 8-0 to Plum, but it was a unique opportunity to host a state playoff game at War Memorial Field.
Without an opponent in last year’s D10 title match, the Dragons didn’t get medals around their necks — enough motivation for Wednesday’s match.
“It would mean a lot, not just to have the title of winning, but to have something to represent all the work we have put in,” said Warren senior Eliza Brook. “It would only be right to have one last win as a senior having had that success since freshman year. It’s a special thing.”
Warren has defeated Meadville twice this season by a combined 13-0.
