First-place Meadville dominates Warren 53-0

MEADVILLE — Meadville’s football team wrapped up the Region 4 title on Friday by decimating winless Warren, 53-0, at the Barco-Duratz Athletic Complex.

The Bulldogs (7-2 overall and 5-0 in the region) had five rushing touchdowns in the first half alone, leading 34-0 at the break.

Bradyn Miller scored less than two minutes into the game — his 14th rushing touchdown of the year. He would add two more in the second half.

Meadville was off and running when Brighton Anderson made it 14-0 on his first of two first-half scores — from 47 and 33 yards, respectively.

Jordan Lawrence, part of Meadville’s three-headed rushing monster, broke free for a 51-yard touchdown with a minute left in the half.

Meadville pounded out three more rushing scores in the second half.

In addition to Miller, Anderson and Lawrence combining for six touchdowns, quarterback Jacoby Thompson and Nic Williams added touchdown runs for Meadville, which secured its third straight region title.

Lawrence finished with 226 yards rushing on 11 carries, Miller 126 on 13 rushing attempts, Anderson 85 on five, Thompson 77 on three, and Williams had a nine-yard touchdown on his only carry.

“Fundamentally-sound team,” said Warren coach Cody Bupp, “(and) their kids run hard. We knew it was going to be physical. It came down to making some tackles and we had guys in position; we just didn’t make plays.”

Unofficially, Meadville amassed 563 total yards (523 on the ground) to Warren’s 134.

An interception when Warren was deep in Meadville territory epitomized the night.

“Proud of the kids,” said Bupp, whose Dragons fall to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the region. “They competed for four quarters. That was a good defense, and we were able to move the ball, but didn’t finish.”

Warren quarterback Eric Dippold finished with 78 yards passing and two interceptions. Johnny Corbett caught three of his six completions for 62 yards.

Tommy Nyquist again carried the offense with 75 yards rushing on 23 carries.
