Warren girls tennis improves to 3-0 with win over St. Marys

ST. MARYS — Warren’s girls tennis team moved to 3-0 on the year Friday with a 5-0 sweep of St. Marys.

“We took this match very seriously today as we have lost to this team the last four times we have played them, all in tight contests,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “St. Marys has won the last eight D9 team championships and has two of the best coaches in the district, so we came into this one focused and determined to get over the hump of previous years.”

At first singles, Iris Kiehl defeated Roan Lion 6-1, 6-2.

At second singles, Mary Gerace defeated Maddy Wittman 6-2, 6-0.

At third singles, Lucy Harrison defeated Rylee Nicklas 6-1, 6-1.

At first doubles, Izzy Heacox and Grace Carr defeated Tralynn Ginther and Sara Regulski 6-0, 6-0.

At second doubles, Natasha Ferry and Mackenzie Lester defeated Isabella Farabaugh and Danilynn Geitner 6-3, 6-0.

In JV play, Kaelin Hatfield, Maddy McDunn, Alannah Garza, and Sarah Harvey all grabbed wins for the Dragons.

“I could key in on each individual match, but there truly is no need as everyone played some great tennis today,” said Pellegrino. “We continue to get better as the season goes on and our girls are playing every match with a purpose. Coach (Norm) Dziendziel and I were very pleased with everyone’s performance tonight and look forward to continuing this win streak when we take on Bradford next Friday at home.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
