Warren girls breeze past Erie

ERIE — Warren’s girls soccer team is 2-1 in Region 6 after a 12-0 win on Wednesday at Erie High.

“We played great soccer tonight,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons are 4-5 overall. “This was a nice game for us to get back to the basics. Our spacing and passing were very good and we were able to dominate possession. Our midfield players — Eliza Brook, Marielle Stanz, and Meea and Leyna Irwin — were outstanding together and completely controlled the game for us.

“Eliza and Leyna have been a real weapon on corner kicks this season,” he said. “Eliza totaled four assists, three coming off corners. Leyna scored on two headers and Meea was able to knock in another with a beautiful trap and perfectly-placed kick. Meea Irwin lead the way with four goals and three assists playing as the attacking midfielder.”

Brook finished with two goals and four assists, Lucy Bigelow and Leyna Irwin two goals and an assist each, Stanz two goals, Lilly Stanley and Lani Wenzel one assist apiece, and Hailey Peterson was the shutout keeper.

Warren’s junior varsity girls soccer team beat Erie, 4-0. Wenzel had two goals and Bailey Williams and Kaylee Cyphert one goal each.

Starting at $2.99/week.
