Sheffield football suffers lopsided 67-27 defeat

A week after putting up almost 300 yards in the air, the Wolverines’ passing attack was all but diminished by Otto-Eldred Friday night. The Terrors were able to hold Sheffield’s Colby Barr to one yard and no scores, intercepting the junior quarterback twice in a 67-27 rout.

Half of Otto-Eldred’s Shane Magee’s completions were touchdowns, as the Terrors’ quarterback went eight of 11 for 74 yards. Both Michael Eaton and Hunter App ran for over 100 yards a piece, with each reaching paydirt. Devin Kimball was the Terror with a nose for the endzone, rushing just seven times but scoring three touchdowns. Manning Splain led Otto-Eldred with two receptions for 31 yards, both scoring plays.

Sheffield Hayden Holden, exploded on the ground for the Wolverines despite the loss, rushing for 203 yards on 16 carries, reaching the endzone on three separate occasions.

Otto-Eldred held a 41-point lead after seven straight scoring drives well into the second quarter, before the Wolverines were able to get on the board with a Holden one-yard score. Sheffield opened the second half down 47-7.

Christian Garcia Correa capped off an 80-yard drive with a 31-yard rushing touchdown. Garcia Correa finished the game with 28 yards on ten carries. Sheffield’s final two scores belonged to Holden in the fourth, with 55-yard and 22-yard carries. Sheffield kicker Alex Eaton went three of four on extra points.

The Wolverines fall to 0-2 and will host District 2 Class AAA Montrose Meteors Saturday afternoon.
