KANE — The Eisenhower Lady Knights soccer team traveled to Kane on Saturday morning in search of the first win of the season. An opportunistic offense and a shut down defense sent them home with that in their 3-1 victory over the Lady Wolves.

Lady Knights head coach Emily Woods moved some of her players around hoping for more offensive production and her hunch was right.

“I moved a few girls into different positions earlier in the week and it certainly paid off,” Woods added. “It was great to see them relax and just play, they have adapted well.”

Both teams were solid on defense in the first half as the Lady Knights scored the only goal of the half at the 20:21 mark when Julia Gesing made a nice pass to Katie Bunk in the center of the net and Bunk’s kick was true to give the Lady Knights the lead.

Coming out at the half, the Lady Knights struck quickly when Rosalie Rondeau’s kick from center goal gave the Lady Knights some breathing room as they opened up a 2-0 lead.

That 2-0 lead was short lived as the Lady Wolves moved the ball upfield and Emily Stephens put the Lady Wolves on the board at the 21:24 to cut the lead to 2-1.

It took seven minutes for the Lady Knights to score again as Samantha Childs took a pass from Emily Grosch in the middle and drilled it to the back of the net to give the Lady Knights some breathing room at 3-1.

The Lady Knights defense was aggressive the rest of the game as they got their first win at 3-1.

“It’s great to finally get that first win that we’ve been so close to getting but we just couldn’t finish,” Woods said about the victory. “Today was a total team effort, it was great to see everything that we have been working so hard for finally come together and get us the win.”

The Lady Knights return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Girard.

Starting at $3.50/week.
