Eagles post 3rd volleyball win of season

TIDIOUTE –The Youngsville Lady Eagles completed a perfect 2-0 week with their third victory of the season on Thursday, a 3-1 triumph over Tidioute at Tidioute Community Charter School.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-11 before the Bulldogs rallied back for a 25-20 win in set two. Youngsville earned 25-17 and 25-22 wins in sets three and four to close out the victory.

The first set was highlighted by eight service points from Madilynn Johnson. Youngsville coach Hannah Bulard made some changes after the opening set and it opened the door for Tidioute to even the match after two sets.

“I switched things up in the second set and unfortunately our team doesn’t handle change well and Tidioute was able to capitalize on our mistakes,” said Bulard. “I’ll give it to those girls at Tidioute. They were scrappy, hustled and were able to pick up some of Riley (Robinault’s) aggressive hits. It was fun to watch tonight and I’m glad we came out with another win.”

Youngsville settled down in the third set and grabbed a 2-1 lead, but the Lady Eagles found themselves down 22-18 in the fourth and were dangerously close to a fifth and deciding set.

Allyson Johnson stepped up in the clutch for Youngsville clicking off seven straight service points to help propel the Eagles to the win.

Robinault had a personal-best 13 kills for the night as well as six digs in the back row. Madilynn Johnson played a strong defensive game with 12 digs and added 18 assists offensively.

“Going into the Sheffield Tournament this weekend with some wins under our belt is a confidence booster and I believe these girls will do well there,” added Bulard. “It’s a good time for us to start heating up with Iroquois and Eisenhower next week.”

Youngsville was able to come from behind and win the junior varsity game in a thrilling three-set match, 19-25, 25-21, 15-10. Jayda Myers had seven aces and five kills and Marli Rectenwald ran the offense with nine assists.
