Warren’s boys golf team dominated its home Region 6 Mega Match on Monday, clinching the region title with a first-place finish at Blueberry Hill Golf Course.

Warren — led by medalist Braddock Damore’s 18-hole 70 and three out of the top four finishers — finished with a four-golfer 314 to McDowell’s 335, Cathedral Prep’s 339, Hickory’s 356, Erie High’s 357, Meadville’s 361, and Corry’s 412.

“To clinch the region title with one match to go is very special, but our sights are set on trying to win our first team district title,” said Warren coach Nate Sandberg. “I am extremely proud of our varsity squad as well as the junior varsity players that help them improve. Thursday is our last region match, so hopefully we can get a few more individual players in that top 14 for districts as well.”

The top 14 golfers by average in D10 3A — which is Region 6 — play on Oct. 2 and 3 in Meadville for the individual title. Warren’s Damore is in the top spot with a 71.3 average with Thursday’s final mega match at Corry to go. Brady Berdine is among the top four region golfers averaging below 80. Reid Olsen is also battling for a D10 spot in the top 14 with his best round of the season on Monday.

In addition to Damore’s 70, Berdine was second at home with 77 and Olsen fourth at 79. Conner Zaffino’s 88 rounded out the team scoring for the first-place Dragons.

The top two teams in 3A also play on Oct. 2 for the D10 team title. Warren is one team, and McDowell currently leads Prep by one point in the region standings with one mega match remaining for the second spot.

Johnny Palmieri shot a 90 on Monday to show Warren’s depth.
