JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Josh Roberson struck out the first batter he faced on three pitches.

He made it look that easy during the rest of his time on the mound, too.

The right-hander allowed just three hits, fanned three, walked one and hit two in five innings to highlight Greenville’s 8-3 victory over Portland in Game 6 of the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series on Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park.

Roberson, who was named the Ron Tellefsen Outstanding Player of the Game, also had two hits, joining teammate Tate Pinner, who also had a pair of base hits. Caleb Lacroix led Greenville’s offensive attack with three hits.

The Southeast Regional champions took advantage of three Portland errors in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back to even their tournament record at 1-1.

Portland (0-1) averted the shutout by scoring three runs in the sixth inning against reliever Carter Evans. Silas Combs collected a pair of hits, earning Tellefsen Outstanding Player of the Game honors in the process, and James Gill added a double. Bryce Mayo took the loss.
