JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Tino Flores has a Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series memory for the ages.
Bryce Mayo’s isn’t bad either.
Together, they led Portland, Oregon to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Norwalk, Connecticut in Game 18 at Diethrick Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Flores’ two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Paul Oellrich with the winning run and set off a wild celebration by the Pacific Northwest Regional champions.
Flores’ heroics were made possible when Oellrich led off the inning with a walk against Colin Peters, who came on in relief of David Harry to start the sixth inning. After Peters struck out Roscoe Mithoefer, Jabril Love-Shabazz laid down a sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Flores, who lined a base hit to center field. Oellrich just beat the throw to the plate and Portland is now 2-2 in the National Division. Norwalk is 3-1.

While Flores provided the late-game heroics, Mayo was brilliant from start to finish, tossing a four-hitter, striking out three and walking two, one intentionally. He left the game after giving up a leadoff double to Jacob Fields in the bottom of the seventh. James Gill, who drove in Portland’s first-inning run on a groundout, came on in relief and gave up a flyball that advanced Fields to third. Fields ultimately scored the tying run on a wild pitch before Gill retired the side.
Like his counterpart, Mayo, Harry was just as effective on the mound for Norwalk. In five innings, he didn’t give up a hit, struck out three and walked two. The run he allowed in the first inning was unearned after a flyball was dropped in the outfield.
Flores and Norwalk’s Matt Rinaldi were the Ron Tellefsen Outstanding Players of the Game.
Portland will now play Opp, Alabama at 3 p.m. today in the playoff round.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The postgame awards ceremony complete Wednesday afternoon, Jordan Suarez was approached by a member of the Beekman, New York coaching staff and the pair shared a few words and a warm embrace.
The crafty left-hander, the Ron Tellefsen Most Outstanding Player, sure deserved it.
Working quickly and confidently, Suarez tossed 61/3 innings, surrendered one earned run, five hits, struck out three and walked four to lead Beekman to a 7-5 victory over Greenville, North Carolina in Game 17 of the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series at Diethrick Park.
When he left the game with one out in the top of the seventh inning, Beekman led 7-1 and now stands 2-2 in National Division pool play. It will now meet Opp (2-2) out of the American Division at 4:30 p.m. in the playoff round.
Beekman led from start to finish, scoring three times in the first inning, courtesy of three straight walks, and RBI singles by Tristan Rivera, Christian Anderson and Gianni Servidio off losing pitcher Cade Butcher. Josh Roberson came on in relief and finished the game.

Greenville responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Roberson doubled and scored on a single by Ahmad Abulatifa. The score remained 3-1 until the sixth when Beekman scored two runs and it added two more in the seventh.
Armed with a 7-1 lead, Suarez struck out the first batter, but after issuing a walk and a single he was relieved by Sean Kelly. A couple of errors, a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single by Carter Evans pulled Greenville to within 7-5 with the tying runs on base. But Casey Lowndes, the third pitcher of the inning, struck out the final batter to end the game.
Rivera led Beekman offensively with three hits, and Lowndes (RBI) and Anderson (two RBIs) added two apiece.
Evans, the Tellefsen Most Outstanding Player for Greenville (1-3 in the National Division), had two hits and two RBIs.
Beekman will now play Eau Claire, Wisconsin at 5:30 p.m. today in the playoff round.
