Hess takes lead on lap 9, prevails at Stateline

BUSTI, N.Y. -- Dave Hess Jr. finally broke through for his first Stateline Super Late Model win of the season on Saturday.
Jason Genco turned things around after a disastrous outing two weeks ago to grab the win in the RUSH Crate Late Models. David Scott went coast to coast in the UMP Modifieds. Jason Black hit the jackpot again in the Pro Stocks. It was all Steve Dixon in the RUSH Pro Mods, and Chris Horton returned to his winning ways in the Challenger thriller.
First up would be the RUSH Crate Late Models. Genco definitely put the previous week behind him, grabbing the lead from race leader Andy Michael on lap 9, to cruise to his second Stateline RUSH Crate Late Model win of the season. Andy Michael would win the fierce battle for second, Sinclairville, N.Y.'s David Parker was third, Khole Wanzer -- in one of his best runs of the season -- was fourth and Matt Sipes would end up fifth.
Next to take Hall of Famer Spanky Hall's green flag, would be the stout field of UMP Modifieds. Scott would use his front-row starting position and fend off the challenges of Hess to pick up his second Stateline UMP Modified feature of 2023. Hess, after starting 12th, would settle for second, Dan Sasso brought home a podium run for third, and Troy Johnson and Tim Peterson rounded out the top five.
Black, who also won on June 3, would finally muscle his way into the lead on lap 6 after a fierce battle with Matt Sampson and Jason Covey, who won May 27, to go on to pick up his second Stateline Pro Stock win of the season. Gary Fisher Jr., after starting 14th and smoking most of the race, would end up second. Multi-champ John Boardman road home third, Tanner Ramsey was fourth and Sampson rounded out the top five.
Next to hit the surface would be the headlining ground-pounding Super Late Models. Hess, who you could say was having a bit of a dry spell, would show he was not to be denied, going on to pick up his first Stateline Speedway Super Late Model win of the season. This would also be No. 44's 39th career Super Late Model win at the Chautauqua County speed plant, making him fifth on the all-time wins list. Chub Frank would win a great battle for second, by getting by Greg Oakes on the final lap to secure the bridesmaid spot. Oakes, Dutch Davies and Kyle Bedell, in his best run of the season, would complete the top five.
Dixon has definitely opened some eyes this season in the RUSH Pro Mod Division. Dixon showed no mercy, going on to pick up his third Stateline triumph of the season. Veteran Al Brewer would finish a distant second, Tyler Oakes was third, last week's winner Zain Harvey, after starting 15th, was fourth and Brendan Warner, in one of his best outings to date, would ride home fifth.
The nightcap featured the always-thrilling front-wheel-drive Challengers. A great battle would take place between the two flashy wheelmen of John Mease and Horton. Mease would hold off a persistent Horton until the final turns of the final lap, when Mease and Horton would split a lapped car between turns 3 and 4, with Horton grabbing his needed momentum down the front stretch to overtake racelong leader Mease at the checkered flag, for a thrilling second Stateline Challenger win of 2023. Following Horton across the line, would be Mease, Dylan Greene, last week's winner Domingo Echevarria and Holden Heineman.
