Warren’s Fincher to play for singles title today

ERIE — For the first time since 2015, Warren’s boys tennis will be represented — by senior Logan Fincher — in the District 10 Singles Championships.
Fincher, the No. 2 seed, will meet top-seeded Gavin Ferretti of Cathedral Prep at 3 p.m. today at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.
“He was the second seed after having a stellar senior season where he only lost matches to both of last year’s district champions — Aaron Heinlein of McDowell and Jonah Ng of Cathedral Prep,” said Warren coach Travis Myler. “He beat three players on his way to the D10 finals against Cathedral Prep’s Gavin Ferretti.”
The last time Warren had a player reach the D10 final was in 2015 when Nate Sandberg won the 2A title.
“I am grateful that I have the opportunity to play in the finals on Monday,” said Fincher, the Region 1 Player of the Year for the past two seasons. “I have waited for four years, including a COVID year with no season, for this opportunity and I am ready to give it my best shot. My team is supportive and behind me and I have two fantastic coaches who have gotten me this far and they’ve taught me all they can. I’m going to try to make them all proud. What’s next? Monday, 3 p.m. finals. That’s what’s next.”
Senior Mark Lynds won his first-round match on Saturday before being eliminated in the second round.
“All the boys have worked hard all season,” said Myler. “We were disappointed for Adam (Strandburg) and Abe (Wolf), who both lost to tough opponents in the qualifiers. They would have been automatic entrants for most teams. Mark Lynds had a good win against Sharon’s number one in the main draw before losing to Fairview’s number two, Graham Louis. The biggest upset of the tournament was Fairview’s number one, Aditya Turaga, losing to Cathedral Prep’s number five (James Cassella).”
