Cambridge Springs beats Eisenhower 8-5

RUSSELL — The Eisenhower Knights lost a heart-breaker to the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils on Wednesday at Werner Park, falling 8-5 in extra innings.

The Knights took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kael Hunt singled to drive in the first run of the game.

Eisenhower would add another run in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, senior Spencer Wynn drove a 1-2 pitch for a single to score Cole Kellogg to keep pace with the Blue Devils, who added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score at 4-4.

Neither team would score in the seventh, setting the stage for extra innings.

Extra innings belonged to Cambridge Springs when they took full advantage of three walks by the Knights. The Blue Devils’ Tristen Mazzadra then drove a 1-2 pitch deep over the left-field fence to give the visitors the 7-4 lead. Cambridge Springs would add another run in the inning to make it 8-4.

The Knights did add a run in their half of the inning and left two men on base to end their brief two-out rally.

The loss was a tough one for the Knights as they outhit the Blue Devils 14-7 and stole eight bases; Kellogg led the way for the Knights with four.

Hunt started on the hill and was strong for Eisenhower. In his five innings of work, he gave up two runs on five hits and a walk.

Kellogg was 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored for the Knights.
