Beers, Myers shine for Eagles at districts

SLIPPERY ROCK — A pair of Youngsville boys track & field athletes returned home from a rainy Slippery Rock University on Saturday with medal-winning performances at the District 10 Class AA Track & Field Championships.

One of the careers is just beginning in freshman Ethan Beers while the other — senior Blake Myers — saw his senior season in the red and white come to a close.

Beers was third in the Boys Class AA triple jump on Saturday, setting a personal best with a jump on 42-feet, 2.5-inches. The top eight athletes in each event from Saturday’s competition were awarded District 10 medals while the top two in each event — as well as those meeting state qualifying standards — advanced to next week’s PIAA Class AA Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University.

Myers cleared 5-feet, 11-inches in the high jump which was good enough for seventh and his second straight D-10 medal winning performance. Myers and teammate Beers also competed in the long jump on Saturday, finishing 17th and 13th, respectively.

In other action for the Eagles, senior Ethan Senz capped off a busy day with performances in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4X100 relay with Koby Hendrickson, Beers and Talon Mesel. Senz was 28th in the 100 with a run of 12.05, 27th in the 200 with a run of 24.83 and the relay team finished in 48.39 seconds.

Eagles senior Logan McDonald ended his track & field career with a 15th-place finish in the 300 hurdles, crossing the line in 45.10 seconds.

For the Lady Eagles track team, freshman Riley Robinault competed in four events on Saturday. Individually, Robinault was 15th in the 100-meter dash with 13.95, tied for 11th in the high jump at 4-feet, 6-inches and 20th in the long jump 13-feet, 8.5-inches.

As part of the 4X100 relay team, Robinault joined Lilly Clough, Alyssa Howell and Zaylee Cressley to finish 15th in 55.59 seconds. Cressley was also a 16th-place finisher in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.8 seconds.

Starting at $3.50/week.
