Warren’s softball team won in dramatic fashion Saturday at Lady Dragons Field for its second straight Region 5 win.

With two outs and two strikes, trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Alanna Warrior’s two-run single started a celebration at home plate in the Dragons’ 7-6 win over visiting General McLane.

The Lancers’ Bailey Cannon got the first two outs of the seventh before back-to-back singles by Halle Kuzminski and Lexi Hoffman. A wild pitch moved them to second and third, and Warrior walked it off.

The Dragons trailed 4-2 before Kuzminski’s RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning resulted in two runs to tie the game.

Warren led 5-4 — after freshman Danika Abbey’s RBI single in the sixth — before McLane rallied on a two-run double off the bat of Cannon in the top of the seventh.

“It’s hard to come back when you’re down, and I can’t believe the way these girls fought and came back two times,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “Halle has been waiting to break out offensively and this week she did it. I’m so happy for her. Lily Devore also has been clutch this week. Danika Abbey got us out of a tight inning, making a nice catch for a third out. Plus, she recorded her first RBI of her varsity career. Carly (Beers), playing first base, scooped up a couple low throws for outs; those were big saves.”

Kuzminski led the Dragons with three hits, including the RBI triple (she scored on an error on the play). DeVore and Lexi Hoffman had two hits apiece for Warren (3-5 overall and 2-3 in the region).

McLane’s Cannon struck out 14 through six innings before a groundball to first and pop-up to second started the bottom of the seventh.

“During the timeout, before the last at-bat of the game, I told Alanna ‘just be on time. You’re a good hitter, you’ll hit it,’ and she did,” said Coach Stuart. “With two outs and two strikes, that’s not easy to do. It was a great moment for her and the girls. Super proud of all of their effort.”

Winning pitcher Alana Stuart allowed five hits and struck out 10.
