SHEFFIELD — Sheffield got the brooms out Thursday evening on top of Wolverine Mountain, sweeping both boys and girls teams from Otto-Eldred and Cameron County.
The Wolverine boys defeated Otto-Eldred 127-14, and Cameron County 88-53, while the girls won 76.5-62.5 against Otto-Eldred and 78-57 against Cameron County.
Head-to-head, Kassidy Orinko took first against Otto-Eldred in both the long jump (14-6¢) and high jump (4-9) to go along with the first place overall 400-meter relay team (57.71). Orinko’s high jump qualifies her for the District 9 Championships, joining teammate Emily Foster in the event.
“Kassidy is such a positive soul to be around,” said Sheffield head coach Jason Snell. “She always gives her best. She is a competitor, but is always smiling and enjoying the moment. I was so glad that her district qualification tonight was her moment to enjoy. She is in incredible teammate and athlete to be around.”
Accompanying Orinko on the relay win was Bryana Butler, Emma Roell and Emily Foster. Roell also took first against Otto-Eldred in discus (86-10¢) and first overall in the 100-meters (13.81 seconds). Sheffield’s 3,200-meter relay (13:44), made up of Madison Connolly, Juniper Gilbride, Katelyn Thomas and Emma McBride, and 1600-meter relay (5:16), made up of Lily Benton, Sarah Hoffman, Lexi Goldthwaite and Bryana Butler, dominated the track, beating both visiting schools.

McBride also took first overall in the 800 meters (3:10). Benton won the 110-meter hurdles (19.64 seconds) against Cameron County, while Connolly won shot put (25-7¢) against Otto-Eldred.
“These girls show up and work and work as hard as anyone on the team,” said Snell. “They have been so close, so many times, with that victory bell in their sights. Tonight, they finally, very deservingly, crossed that finish line and rang the heck out of it. I couldn’t be happier for such a hard working and sweet group of young ladies.”
The boys relay teams also dominated, winning all three. The Wolverines’ 3,200-meter relay (9:58) consisted of Trenton Mead, Chris Joblon, Alex Eaton and Dylan Hardwick. The 400-meter relay (48.27 seconds) was run by Damar Seymour, Collin Brown, Leihden Wotorson and Lucas McNeal. Brown and Hardwick were joined by Austin Fiscus and Colby Barr for the 1,600-meter relay (4:15). Barr also won the 400 meters (57.96 seconds) overall and the long jump (16-6) versus Cameron County. Seymour won the 100 meters (11.99 seconds) and 200 meters (24.89 seconds) overall, as did Eaton in the 1600 meters (5:42).
“We knew Otto’s boys coming in were very strong in the hurdles and jumps,” said Snell after his boys’ team bounced back following the heartbreaking loss to Coudersport. “We knew we had to step up on the track and in the throws. The challenge was given, and they delivered.”
The girls are now at 2-4 on the year, while the boys improve to 5-1. Sheffield will host again Monday when North Clarion comes to town.
