Warren’s softball team evened its Region 5 record at 3-3 with a 3-2 win on Thursday over visiting McDowell.
“Just getting better every day,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart, whose Lady Dragons are 4-5 overall after their third straight win. “That’s what we’re doing and it’s paying off. Yes, we struggled offensively and left way too many runners on base, but in the end, all that matters is that we do enough to win and we did.”
Sophomore starting pitcher Alana Stuart allowed three hits and one earned run, striking out 12 in the complete-game win.
McDowell pitcher Gabriella Deluca doubled to open the fourth inning and scored on a two-out single to cut Warren’s lead to 2-1. Deluca reached again on an error to open the top of the sixth, scoring to tie the score at 2-2 on Gracie Miller’s single — McDowell’s third and final hit of the game.
Warren’s Miken Beers and Emma Gray reached on singles to start the bottom of the sixth and, with one out, Carly Beers ripped a line-drive single to right or score the go-ahead run.

“Alana pitched incredible,” said coach Stuart. “I’ll even take the blame for the double that was a bad pitch call. (We) definitely still need to work and work hard, but loving the way these girls are believing in each other and fighting. Lexi (Hoffman) was hot tonight and Carly was so clutch with that hit.”
Beers reached all four times from the leadoff spot, with three hits, including a triple. Hoffman was 3-for-3 in Warren’s 11-hit attack.
McDowell is 5-8 overall and 2-4 in Region 5.
