Anchoring a new Region 4 that includes Eisenhower, Youngsville, Seneca, and Union City, Warren's boys' and girls' track and field teams are looking for double titles.
"This year, we changed regions and we are looking to start with region championships on both sides," said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. "After that, we are trying to qualify as many as possible for the District 10 Championships in May, bring home as many medals as we can, and hopefully take some athletes to the PIAA State Championships. We have a lot of young kids out and hope to get them some quality experience, but some will be contributing immediately.
"Our top returners for the girls would be Lindsay Madigan (sprints/jumps), Alexia Bowers (sprints/hurdles), Aurora Feaster (throws), Laney Gatto (sprints/jumps), and Shyann Rulander (distance)," said Dustin.
"For the boys, we have Sam Lindell (distance), Parker Anderson (throws), Parker Shene (jumps), Matt Sowa (distance), Corban Reinard (mid-distance), Ethan Best (sprints/hurdles), and Cayden Wright (sprints). We also have a lot of returning athletes that I think will finally break through some barriers and surprise everyone this year.
"It's always early to tell who will be a top newcomer," added Dustin, "but some people who stand out are Morgan Alexander, Maddie Nosel, Lilly Newton, Zoe Rodgers, Hannah Pearson, Alex Gulnac, Luc Wilkins, and Jeremiah Richardson. I have no doubt there will be more newcomers who really show they can perform and compete at a high level and it's always exciting to get some of those unexpected performers."
On the Lady Dragons, seniors include Lilly Branthoover, Gracie Gatto, Carmen Moore, Harley Poole, and Shyann Rulander; juniors are Jaqueline Acosta Quintero, Alexia Bowers, Aurora Feaster, Laney Gatto, Kaelin Hatfield, Kasey Kophazy, Desirea Matsock, Tori McMichael, Hannah Pearson, Katrina Seamens, and Paris Sivak; sophomores, Ellie Yeager, Lindsay Madigan, Grace Carr, and Shalynn Barbera; and freshmen, Morgan Alexander, Ryleigh Bowers, Brady Caudill, Morgan Ceriola, Kaylee Cyphert, Taylor Eggleston, Evelyn Egner, Riley Evan, Lauren Fajbik, Cailyn Gerbec, Sarah Harvey, Loralei Johnson, Kylie Jurkowski, Isabella Knupp, Jenna Kophazy, Cayci Kramer, Kylee Madigan, Lilly Newton, Maddie Nosel, Zoe Rodgers, Addison Schott, Lillian Stanley, and Kaitlyn Zuzzio.
Senior boys include Cayden Wright, Corban Reinard, Louis Flatt, and Ethan Best; juniors, Parker Anderson, Johnny Corbett, Lucas Douvlos, Henry Egner, Jeremiah Richardson, Owen Schott, Parker Shene, Matthew Sowa, and Charles Strickland; sophomores, Jordan Cameron, Lionel Chapel, Cole Johnson, Logan Kramer, Samuel Lindell, Cameron Williams, Jayden Wilson, and Alex Yeager; and freshmen, Blake Albaugh, Tommaso Clemente, Cole English, Alexander Gulnac, Andrew Haight, Andrew Heffern, Jack Monroe, Ryan Letko, Parker Mowrey, Landon Nelson, Johnny San Andres, Wyatt Stearns, Kolten Sumrow, and Luc Wilkins.
"On both sides this year, I really think we are a pretty well-rounded team," said Dustin. "It will be interesting to get into meets to see exactly where we need to work on and move athletes around, but right now we seem to have a fair amount of talent and depth in most areas on the track and in the field.
"Every team is different from any other team," added Dustin. "There are always new and familiar faces. I think this year we added a lot of talent in the newcomers that should contribute immediately, and then we have some that will still need to develop to continue to build strong teams year after year. One thing we stress is building a legacy in what you do, but to develop and pave the way for those to come after you as well. I think this team is a result of that and it will be exciting to see how well they do this year."
