Warren boys tennis nets 2nd victory of week

Warren’s boys tennis team is 2-0 after a 4-1 Region 1 win over Oil City on Thursday at Betts Park.

“Honestly, everyone looked better than they did on Tuesday,” said Warren coach Travis Myler. “Obviously, Carson (Moore) losing isn’t what anyone wanted, but he is going to learn more from today’s match than any easy win he could’ve had.

“We are telling the boys to be prepared to play at any match because we want to be successful now and in the future,” said Myler. “Getting our younger guys a significant amount of match experience this year is going to make us all better.”

At top singles, senior Mark Lynds had a 6-1, 6-1 win over Oil City’s Jackson Dilks. Warren’s Abe Wolf added a second singles win, 6-1, 6-2, over Dylan Bly. At third singles, Moore fell 1-6, 3-6 to Oil City’s Spencer Greene.

At first doubles, Warren’s Owen Strandburg and Hugh Harrison defeated Simon Burkett and Austin Meehan, 6-2, 6-0. Adam Strandburg and Jack Lynds dominated in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Harlynn Myers and Justin Garland.

“Mark and Abe stepped up in singles and both revamped doubles pairings played extremely well together,” said Myler, whose Dragons are 2-0 and 1-0 in the region. “We are fortunate to have such depth and to be able to get a lot of variations out of our lineup.”
