Sheffield’s Connolly 3rd at PJW state tournament

Submitted Photo Sheffield seventh-grader Kaelon Connolly was third this weekend at the PJW state championships in Johnstown.

JOHNSTOWN — Kaelon Connolly, who wrestles for both Sheffield junior high and the Warren County United Girls Wrestling Club, finished third this weekend in the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling state championships.

Connolly, the No. 1 seed from Area 8, was seeded 13th in the 32-girl 135-pound bracket.

The seventh-grader started with a quick pin and a major decision in her second match, but suffered an injury which hindered her third match, and she went 2-1 on the first day.

On day two, Connolly, still hurting from the day before, showed incredible mental toughness and hammered out three wins to work her way back into the third-fourth match. She pinned the pinned the bracket’s top seed in 1:57 to earn the third-place spot on the podium.
