Mancuso, McDonald ousted at regionals

SHARON — All good things come to an end.

A pair of Youngsville senior wrestling standouts saw their high school careers come to a close at the PIAA Class AA Northwest Regional this past weekend at Sharon High School.

127-pounder Ian Mancuso and 139-pounder Logan McDonald each qualified for the tournament — the final step before next week’s PIAA Championships in Hershey — with sixth-place finishes at last week’s District 10 Class AA Tournament also in Sharon.

McDonald dropped his opening match of the tournament to Titusville’s Nate Stearns via pinfall late in the second round and saw his career come to a close with a heartbreaking 7-4 setback in the consolation rounds.

“Logan wrestled his heart out, but we knew going in we had to wrestle flawless,” said Youngsville coach Dave Myers. “Coach Morris and I are exceptionally proud of both of these young men.”

Mancuso’s weekend began with a pinfall loss to Fort LeBoeuf’s Noah Cuic in the closing stages of the third period. In his consolation match, Mancuso was pinned by Clearfield’s Colton Ryan in 2:06.

“Ian did the best he could this weekend after dealing with a stomach bug that limited his practice time,” said Myers. “But at this point in the season there are no excuses. These two have set the standard by which the program moving forward will be measured up to. Their dedication and leadership this season will pay dividends to the underclassmen next season and we will miss them immensely.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
