Jamestown CC tied for 43rd at NJCAA wrestling
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — After day one of the NJCAA Wrestling Championships, Jamestown Community College’s wrestling team sits tied for 43rd out of 55 competing institutions.
Alex Christy (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia CS) got the Jayhawks in the win column in the 184-pound class, getting the fall over Rotimi Animashaun of Camden County CC, needing 1:30 to do so. Moving onto the second round, Christy was defeated via 16-0 technical fall against Darion Johnson of Western Wyoming CC. Moving onto the consolation bracket, Christy was defeated via 18-2 technical fall against Wyatt Powell of Cloud County CC.
Brock Johnson (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer CS) got JCC’s second win of the day, defeating Christian Slack of Snow College by a 7-5 decision victory in the first round of the 197-pound class. Moving onto the second round, Johnson was defeated by Drew Fox of North Iowa Area CC by a 13-7 decision result. In the consolation bracket, Johnson was narrowly defeated by Dakota Veltman of Muskegon CC by a 14-12 decision.
James Rankin (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights HS) got the Jayhawks’ final win of the day in the 149-pound class. In the first round, Rankin was defeated by David Capron of Triton College by a 17-2 technical fall. Moving onto the consolation bracket, Rankin got in the win column with an 8-5 decision win over Ryder Fassett of Southwestern Oregon CC. In his next match, Rankin was bested by Xzavier Seuss of St. Clair College by a 20-9 major decision.
Brendon Ramsey (Panama, N.Y./Panama CS) had close matches in the 133-pound class, falling by a narrow 6-4 decision against Stephan Baldwin of Barton CC. In the consolation bracket, Ramsey was again narrowly defeated by Gabe Fielder of Mott CC by an 8-5 decision.
