MILLCREEK — It might have seemed anticlimactic, but they’ll take it. A day after four Dragons competed at the District 10 2A Diving Championships on Friday at McDowell Intermediate High School, they received word of finishing first in team scoring.

Fairview teammates Laney Veres and Katie George finished first and second, respectively, individually, and Corry’s Sylvia Elmquist was third. Warren juniors Laney Gatto and Izzy Heacox joined them on the medal stand by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Warren Area High School head swim coach Russ Beyer has mentioned on more than one occasion the depth the Dragons boast on the girls’ roster. Apparently, that includes Warren’s divers. With Warren sophomore Ellie Yeager finishing 10th out of 14 competing in the six-dive championship format on Friday, and freshman teammate Bailey Williams 11th, Warren won the District 10 2A team title.

“They released the official results for diving last night and the Warren team finished on top with 42 points with all four girls scoring points, beating out Fairview with 37 points with only their top-two finishes,” said Warren diving coach Brandon Gregg.

Starting at $3.50/week.
