Oh, no!

Warren junior Hugh Harrison was at it again on Thursday, breaking three more school swimming records in a meet against McDowell at the Warren YMCA. One had belonged to his older brother, Max, in the 100-meter freestyle.

Hugh broke the record in the first leg of the Warren boys’ second-place 400 free relay. He opened with a 53.74-second 100, beating Max’s 2021 record of 55.15 seconds.

“He is very proud,” said Hugh of taking his big brother’s name off the wall. “He assured me of that.”

There was lots of excitement in a competitive meet versus McDowell, despite the Trojans’ 119-42 boys’ win and 97-89 girls’ win for a road sweep.

“Lots of time drops. Lots of energy. It was a great meet,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “Hugh broke three (school) records — the 400 free and the 200 free were his own, and the 100 free was his brother’s, so that was exciting.”

Harrison won the 400-meter free in 4:18.30 and the 200 free in 1:58.98. Freshman Drake Niemitz also won the 50 free for the Dragons.

For the Lady Dragons, Summer Lucks and Lucy Harrison were 1-2 in the 100 butterfly; Sam Caudill won the 400 free; Kirsten Johnson and Madeline Walker finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke; and Izabelle Heacox finished first in 1-meter diving. Warren’s 200 free relay of Harrison, Lucks, Katie Kroger and Leyna Irwin won, and the 200 medley relay of Johnson, Harrison, Lucks and Irwin edged McDowell for first.

“Brody Alexander made districts in the 200 IM, Katie Krogler made districts in the 100 free and Violet Spiegel made it in the 100 breaststroke,” said Beyer. “I know they’re swimming and working hard, so I’m surprised that there’s any time drops because they’re so tired right now.”
