The Sheffield Wolverines competed in the Allegheny Mountain League Championships on Monday night, with seniors A.J. Barnes (121 pounds) and Collin Brown (133 pounds), junior Chase Kyler (139 pounds), and freshman Hayden Holden (127 pounds) all earning the top spots in their respective weight classes.
Barnes was able to get the pin over Bradford’s Mitchell Brinsky in 1:15 in the semifinals. In the finals, Barnes would take on Port Allegany’s Nicholas Wilfong, pinning the Gators freshman in 3:51.
Fellow Gator Colton Furgeson would fall to Brown in 1:17 in the semifinals. Brown then defeated Coudersport’s Wyatt Daisley via pinfall to claim the top spot for the night.
Kyler only had to wrestle one match, pinning Bradford’s Nate Girdlestone in 1:16 in the finals.
The fastest pin of the night came from Holden, who defeated Port Allegany’s Clayton Kiser in just 17 seconds in the semifinals. Holden got more of a workout in his finals match, pinning Gator Christian Rothermel in 3:21.
Sheffield’s Quincy Boose (215 pounds), Alex Marfink (152 pounds) and Zack Barnes (145 pounds) all placed third. Boose had the toughest road to third place, pinning Kane’s Evan Smith in 4:29 in the consolation semifinals, then pinning Port Allegany’s Kodin Flagg in 2:44.
Sheffield head coach Tom Holden simply stated following the long night of AML action that the Wolverines wrestled well and he hoped they carried it on to the postseason.
