Fiscus, Fitzsimmons advance to semis
MEADVILLE — Warren wrestlers Adika Fiscus and Ryan Fitzsimmons have advanced to the semifinals after day one of the District 10 2A Section 1 Tournament on Friday at Meadville Area Senior High.
Fiscus (22-6), a sophomore, earned a 2-0 decision over Fort LeBoeuf’s Brady Bowers in the 107-pound quarterfinals. He will meet Harbor Creek’s Hunter Chew in the semifinals on Saturday.
Fitzsimmons, a junior, decisioned Eisenhower sophomore Griffin Williams, 5-0, to advance to today’s semifinals at 114 pounds.
“Not too many surprises today,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. “Adika wrestled a good match advancing to the semifinals as did Ryan who avenged an early-season loss. Josh (Letko) and Grant (Heeter) bounced back with pins.”
Letko opened with a pin of General McLane’s Landon Harnett at 133 before falling by decision to Corry’s Will Allen in the quarters. The Warren senior battled back to pin Seneca freshman Dominic Buscemi in the consolations.
Heeter dropped a decision to General McLane’s Kyle Cousins in the quarterfinal round at 152. He pinned Northwestern’s Austin Mello in 55 seconds to advance to today’s consolation rounds.
“Connor Zaffino was the lone Dragon not to move into tomorrow,” said Baldensperger. “That being said, I would take a team full of Connors. He does everything he can to improve. His day will come.”
The top seven finishers in each bracket will advance to the Class 2A District 10 tournament at Sharon High School next weekend.
