Youngsville wrestlers compete at Corry JV/JH Tournament
CORRY — The Youngsville jayvee and junior high wrestlers headed to Corry last weekend for the Corry JV/JH Tournament.
Logan Dougherty and Gavin Bundy both came away with fourth-place finishes.
Dougherty earned his first-ever win in the process.
Also winning a match, but not placing, were Gavin Olsen and Kale Jespersen.
On the junior high side, Aaden Patch and James Crawford looked much improved.
Patch lost by fall in his first bout and dropped a hotly contested bout 6-5 in his consolation match.
Crawford also lost by fall his first match, but rallied to turn in a gritty match against his opponent from Redbank Valley losing 6-2 in double-overtime.
Ayden Dean lost two tough matches to game opponents from Corry and North East, respectively.
Three junior high wrestlers also competed in the Tim Edwards Memorial Tournament on Sunday.
Ayden Dean dropped his first bout to eventual champion Makenna Williams of Corry 6-2, then rebounded by picking up a 4-2 decision and a 21-second fall to make the consolation finals against Roman Kafferlin, also of Corry. Dean battled hard, but ultimately lost a well-fought bout 5-2.
Crawford gained some valuable experience wrestling two quality opponents in Brody Nickerson of Corry and Tanner Wolfkiel of Titusville in a three-man round-robin. He fought hard, but dropped both bouts by fall.
Carsyn Branstrom rounded out the trio competing Sunday. Branstrom dropped his first two bouts of a five-man round-robin by fall to the wrestlers who placed first and second at the weight. Branstrom responded by picking up two consecutive pins in 3:44 and 40 seconds over Mason Munoz of WRCL and Kylecole Nelson of Warren.
All three are continuing to progress and show the improvement.
The Youngsville and Eisenhower youth programs will have a select number of matches before the junior high and jayvee bouts kick off at 6 and 6:30 with varsity following at 7 p.m.
