MEADVILLE — Warren wrestlers brought home some hardware after Saturday’s finish to the 14-team 43rd annual Tool City Tournament at Meadville Area Senior High.

Sophomore Adika Fiscus finished 3-1 in the tourney, falling only in the finals at 107-pounds by an 8-5 decision to Meadville’s Ben Fuller. Fiscus had earned a technical fall win and two pins, including Saturday morning in the second period of the semifinals over Cochranton’s Kyle Lantz.

Warren junior Damien Sanchez (4-1) also advanced to the semifinals — at 172-pounds, falling to Titusville’s Brock Covell via a late second-period pin. He bounced back to finish third with a 7-4 decision over Union City’s Drake Applequist, who he also beat in the quarterfinals (11-8).

“I’m really happy with the team’s efforts this weekend,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. “Everyone wrestled hard right to the end of the tournament.

“Damien finished strong and in control in his third-place match,” added Baldensperger. “Adika didn’t have his best match in the finals, but that experience is priceless. He will be looking to carry his momentum forward into the postseason.”

Josh Letko (3-3) and Ryan Fitzsimmons (2-3) lost in their bids to finish fifth at 139 and 114-pounds, respectively. Fitzsimmons fell, 6-5, to Eisenhower’s Griffin Williams. Grant Heeter (3-2 at 152-pounds) won his seventh-place match, 3-0, over Union City’s Steven Klakamp.

Cameron Williams finished 2-3 at 127-pounds.

“We wrestle Wednesday night at home against Seneca for Senior Night,” said Baldensperger, “then get into some stiff competition at the Northwestern Duals.”
