As far as county wrestling rivalries go, Sheffield vs. Eisenhower is one of the best, and Tuesday night’s match did not disappoint as the Knights prevailed 49-18 before a packed gym at Eisenhower High School.
The home team took the early lead 6-0 on forfeit at 114 pounds, but it wouldn’t last long as Sheffield won the next four matches, starting with a tough match at 121 pounds as AJ Barnes won by decision 7-3 over Ryan Chambers. Sheffield freshman Hayden Holden pinned Kamden Ferrand to give the Wolverines the early lead 9-6 at 127 pounds.
Sheffield’s Collin Brown recorded first-period pin over Tanner Lookenhouse at 133 pounds to put the visitors up 15-6. Chase Kyler posted an 11-7 decision over Derek Childs 11-7 at 139 pounds to increase the Wolverines’ lead to18-6.
From that point, the Knights took over and Sheffield did not score a point the rest of the night. Eisenhower’s Cole Kellogg at 145 pounds earned a 19-8 decision over Zack Barnes to get the Knights within 18-16. Cameron Jakubczack caught Alex Marfink and got the first-period pin. Teammate Bryceton Wilkins also earned a pin against Alex Marfink.
In a great match at 172 pounds, the Knights’ Tucker Lindell wrestled up a weight class and managed to pin Trenton Mead in the second period, putting Eisenhower up 28-18.

The Knights’ Benji Bauer took a forfeit at 189, and in the best match of the night, at 215 pounds, Eisenhower’s Brok English won a hard-fought decision over Matt Lobdell. With English leading 9-5, Lobdell got position on English with less than 20 seconds left, but English would not relent and fought off the near pin. Lobdell got three back points to make the final 9-8.
The Knights’ Mike Vanatta earned a first-period pin over Quincy Boise, and teammate Shawn Miller earned the forfeit at 107 pounds to make the final 49-18.
“I thought our guys came out very determined tonight to get the win,” Eisenhower coach Jared Lindell said. “I was really happy for Cam Jakubczack and Bryceton Wilkins who both got pins tonight. It’s always good to beat a county team. I’m sure our guys feel the same way.”
Added Sheffield coach Tom Holden: “Our guys gave a good effort tonight. Giving up the forfeits didn’t help us any as we didn’t match up well with them, but I thought our freshmen, Zach Banew and Hayden Holden, wrestled well.”
