Warren’s boys soccer program recognized eight seniors on Monday at halftime of a 9-0 Region 4 win over Oil City.
One of those eight standing with parents at midfield of War Memorial Field was Parks Ordiway, who leads the 2022 Dragons in goals and assists. He recently joined a short list of WAHS boys soccer players in the “200-point club,” according to head coach Denny Flatt.
“Since its inception in 1996, the Warren Area High School boys soccer program has enjoyed a lot of success,” said Flatt. “Those accolades include a combination of over 20 regional and district championships. The success was obtained through hard work, dedication, and talented players. Although many skillful players have worn the Dragon uniform, only three players are members of the ‘200-point club.'”
Players are awarded two points for a goal and one point for an assist.
Ordiway, a senior forward, recently became the third Dragon to achieve 200 points and the first in 15 years. He currently has 236 points — third behind Justin Munsen and Mark Schoenborn, who each tallied 260 points in their varsity careers.
In addition to total points, Ordiway is third all-time in goals with 89. He recently surpassed former teammate Caleb Lindell, who had 80. His 58 assists are also third in program history, behind Schoenborns’s 66, and Christian Harrington’s 75.
Ordiway has three regular-season matches, “and hopefully a deep run in the playoffs,” said Flatt. “No matter where he ends up in career totals, Parks will be remembered as one of the most prolific offensive players in program history.”
Ordiway is a two-time all-district all-star. He tied for most goals in District 10 with 33 as a sophomore, and first in the district with 88 points as a junior; second in goals with 30 and first in assists with 28 last year. He has 23 goals and 19 assists thus far as a senior.
“Reaching a mark like this is very special to me, especially when it shows on the scoring side and in helping my teammates score as well,” said Ordiway. “The Warren soccer program has been one of the best, if not the best, programs I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. The chemistry and relationships I’ve built with my coaches and every teammate I’ve had through the years has been truly special, and I wouldn’t have reached the mark I have without the support and abilities all those guys possessed. Although I’ve reached an important mark and sealed myself in the history books of Warren soccer, the focus, not just for me but the entire program, is to make a deep run in the playoffs and stay in the win column the rest of the few games we have left. For me personally, I’d love to maybe sneak into the second spot in goals or assists, but winning does come first.”
