Youngsville loses to Cambridge Springs 25-9, 25-17, 25-13

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Cambridge Springs wasn’t the only opponent the Youngsville Eagles volleyball team was facing in a 3-0 loss to the Blue Devils on Tuesday at Cambridge Springs High School.

“We were down four varsity players tonight due to sickness,” said Youngsville head coach Hannah Bulard. “Senior Lilly Clough and freshman Rachael Lucks stepped up and played in new roles tonight. Olivia Darling had an amazing defensive game at the net.”

Youngsville fought to the bitter end, but ultimately found itself on the losing end of a 25-9, 25-17, 25-13 decision.

Despite the loss, Bulard saw some things she thinks show the Eagles are starting to come together as a unit.

“Things are starting to fall together for the team,” she said. “I hope they can see the potential we have. Game 2 was one of the best games these girls have played this season. If we play like this tomorrow night (a home game against Iroquois), I have no doubt we can walk away with our first win of the season.”

Alyssa Gentz had a team-high nine digs for the Eagles and Dilyn Moore had a strong game with nine assists. Darling had five kills and Kamden Swearingen finished with three of her own.

Youngsville’s junior varsity team was defeated in straight sets 25-9, 25-9.

The Eagles are at home the next two nights with today’s game against Iroquois followed by a game Thursday with Maplewood.
