YOUNGSVILLE — The ball hit the floor.

The student section left their seats.

Victory at last.

A season of frustration was erased in a single moment as Youngsville earned its first volleyball victory of the season Tuesday, defeating Tidioute Charter 3-1 at Youngsville High School.

It was a perfect night for the Eagles to break through as the team honored its five seniors — Olivia Darling, Dilyn Moore, Lilly Clough, Harlee Swearingen and Natalie Brown — during Senior Night festivities prior to the start of the game.

After dropping the opening set to a game Bulldogs team by a 25-22 count, the Eagles ripped off three straight set wins 25-21, 25-20 and 25-15.

“We have not been at full strength for a couple of weeks now and are still down a starter,” said Youngsville coach Hannah Bulard. “My starting middle hitters (freshman Riley Robinault and senior Darling) have done a fantastic job stepping up and playing phenomenal defense.”

Darling had a strong game with 11 digs, eight kills and six blocks. Robinault added eight digs, nine kills and five blocks, and Moore and Madi Johnson ran the offense with 20 and 15 assists, respectively.

“It was nice to finally pull away with a win,” added Bulard. “We started off pretty slow, but these girls are learning how to work together as a team and communicate better. It has been an amazing feeling watching this team grow together and build off of the great things they can do on the court.”

The Eagles will try to keep the momentum going this weekend when they compete at the Sheffield Tournament.

Starting at $3.50/week.
