RUSSELL -- The Warren Hogs had the only Warren County Youth Football League action for the weekend facing a nonleague opponent, the Union City Bears of the Erie County Youth Football League.

A game originally scheduled to take place in Union City had a last-minute venue change to the Pasture of Pain at Eisenhower High School at 7 p.m. under the lights.

The Hogs defense was unable to stop the rushing attack of Ethan Mitcham as the Bears won 39-14.

The Hogs started off strong driving the length of the field in their first possession before an interception inside the red zone was returned 85 yards by a Bears defender to make the score 6-0.

The Hogs and Bears battled the rest of the first half without scoring until Ethan Mitcham found the edge and scored with no time remaining on the clock to end the half 12-0 in favor of the Bears.

The Hogs offense continued to move the ball throughout the third quarter and finally Ty Bryan broke free on a quarterback draw for a 45-yard touchdown run. Thayne Gourley punched in the conversion to put the Hogs on the board.

Later in the fourth quarter, the Hogs were able to drive down the field again with the hard running of Gourley and receptions from Wyatt Wilson. From the 10-yard line, a bad snap over the head of Bryan hit the ground and was picked up by Kiser who took it 15 yards around the right side to put in another score for the Hogs. Bryan then hooked up with Kiser on a pass play to get the conversion.

Bryan finished the game with 156 yards passing and 131 yards rushing, Gourley added another 103 yards on the ground, Parker Kiser had 15 yards rushing and 79 yards receiving, Wilson added 72 receiving yards, Keegan Wessinger added a 3-yard rush and 5 yards receiving, and Benny Matson added a 7-yard rush to round out the offense for the Hogs.

Jaden Richards recorded a sack while working with Tucker Sanford in an attempt to clog up the middle of the line.
