WATTSBURG — Warren’s boys soccer team played its best match of the young season on Monday, holding off Seneca 2-0 in a Region 4 road matchup.

Senior Parks Ordiway scored a goal in each half — one from senior Mark Lynds and one on a penalty kick. The Dragons’ defense and senior goalie Will Nebinski stopped every scoring attempt.

“The win reset the top of the region with everyone having one loss,” said Warren assistant coach Chris Darling. “It was a total team effort on the part of the Dragons and a playoff-level atmosphere from the first whistle.”

Nebinski recorded 12 saves in goal to keep the shutout. Corban Reinard played a stellar game to highlight a strong defensive effort by him, Dakota Sliter, Chase Sitler and Ethan Best.

“With a challenging schedule to start the season the Dragons have dropped a few highly contested matches. Our younger players are starting to settle in; along with the experience of our older players, we are starting to play a higher level of soccer,” said Warren head coach Denny Flatt.

The Dragons (2-3 overall and 1-1 in region) next play on Wednesday at Iroquois in another region game.

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS

Following the varsity match, Warren fell 2-0 in the jayvee game.

“Nice match — an excellent effort by Jason Lester and nice defensive effort by Jack Napolitan,” said Darling. “Alex Eaton played well, as did Luc Wilkins.

“I was impressed with the effort of a lot of our players,” said Darling. “We are starting to see the field better and work as a team.”

WARREN GIRLS SOCCER

ERIE — Warren’s girls soccer team stayed close with Cathedral Prep (formerly Villa Maria), but Prep pulled away for a 7-4 nonregion win.

Leyna Irwin, Georgie Bickling, Ellie Yeager and Marielle Stanz scored goals for Warren, which trailed 3-2 at halftime. Bickling and Irwin also had assists.
