STONEBORO — The Eisenhower Knights moved to 5-0 on the season as they traveled to Lakeview and sunk the Sailors 35-13 in nonregion football Friday.

The Knights kicked off to the Sailors to start the game and it took all of 1:34 for the Sailors to strike with a 54-yard pass from Cameron Pence to Daniel Hinkson. Mitchel Tingley’s PAT kick put the Sailors up 7-0.

The lead was short-lived as senior Keegan Eckstrom took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. Cole Kellogg’s PAT kick was good and the score was knotted at 7-7.

Both defenses stood tall until the Knights drove to the Sailors’ 10-yard line and on first-and-goal fumbled. The Sailors recovered and took over.

The Knights forced a punt and then drove down to the Sailors 4-yard line before senior tailback Benji Bauer scored his first of his two touchdowns on the night. The point-after try was no good and the score was 13-7 at halftime.

The knights took the second-half kickoff and drove down to the 3-yard line when senior Tucker Lindell took it up the middle for a touchdown. Bauer’s 2-point run was true putting the Knights up 21-7.

The Knights defense stopped the Sailors on downs and drove the ball down to the 22-yard line before senior quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi ran it in for a touchdown. The PAT kick was no good, but the Knights led 27-7.

The Sailors would drive down to the Knights’ 4-yard line and on third-and-goal, Pence would carry it in for a touchdown. The PAT kick was blocked by Bauer.

The Knights would chew up time with handoffs to Bauer and Lindell. Bauer would break free for a 22-yard touchdown run and get the 2-point conversion making the final score 35-13.

“That was a hard-hitting game from beginning to end,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “It was good to see our guys come out in the second half of a close game and score some points, take over and close it out. I give them a lot of credit, they never quit. I’m just super proud of our team. We have some things to fix and some things to work on for next week.”
