Sheffield downs Brockway in 4 sets

SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Wolverines were able to battle it out with Brockway on Wednesday evening, defeating the Rovers 25-23, 17-25, 26-24 and 25-22.

“We need to continue to work on our communication with each other,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay following the Wolverines’ second straight win. “Lack of communication leads to dropped balls and missed opportunities. We struggled at times from the service line and need to figure out how to minimize those errors.”

Sheffield went into the third set tied 1-1 after a back-and-forth first and Brockway-controlled second that carried over into the third putting Sheffield down quickly allowing the Rovers to pull away by seven points.

The Wolverines fought their way back to squeak out the victory by two points.

In the fourth, it was Sheffield taking the early lead only to allow Brockway to come back within two before finally getting the win.

“We are always in a battle with Brockway,” said Lemay. “I feel like we are evenly matched every year. We were able to effectively run our offense tonight. We had 124 attack attempts with 44 kills.”

Emily Foster had 12 kills, 14 digs and three blocks; Kassidy Orinko had 15 kills, three blocks and 11 digs; Peyton Wotorson had seven kills; and Kadence Steffan had 38 assists and 15 digs.

Sheffield’s JV team won 25-10, 25-6.

Emma Roell had 17 straight serves in the second set and had 15 aces on the night.
