AC Valley sweeps Sheffield

Down one starter entering Saturday’s match, Sheffield able to put together a tough first set, but as the day went on and another key player went down with injury, the Wolverines were unable to compete, falling to 2-4 on the road to Allegheny-Clarion Valley in a 25-19, 25-10, 25-12 defeat.

“Dealing with some injuries with a key player off the court today, had to have some different players in,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “They played together and played well in the set one, then the communication broke down in set two allowing AC Valley to take control with runs of four to five points at a time.”

Lexi Goldthwaite had 10 kills, the always consistent Kadence Steffan had 15 assists, and Peyton Wotorson had seven digs. However, another injury would force Lemay to dive deeper into her bench, and with the team already down 2-0, they were not able to bounce back.

“We just couldn’t seem to regain our composure,” said Lemay. “We were not able to put anything substantial together in the set and allowed AC Valley a run of 10 straight points early in set three. I’m hoping some rest over the weekend will allow people to heal up so we can prepare for Johnsonburg next week.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
