COCHRANTON — Benji Bauer rushed for 133 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns and intercepted a pass for another score to lead Eisenhower to a 41-0 victory over Cochranton in the season-opening football game Friday night.

Shawn Pascuzzi completed 5 of 9 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown to wideout Wyatt Lookenhouse; Keegan Eckstrom returned a punt 70 yards for another TD; and Tucker Lindell bulled over for a 1-yard score to complete a dominant performance by the Knights.

“We had a really good week of practice,” Eisenhower coach Jim Penley said. “We have to continue to improve, because we now know we will get everyone’s best game.”

Bauer was at his best from the very beginning last night.

After the Knights forced a punt on Cochranton’s first possession, Bauer took the handoff on their first offensive play and raced 67 yards to paydirt. The point-after try was no good, but Eisenhower was just getting started.

“I thought Benji had a great game,” Penley said. “He is just so tough to bring down. Our offensive line opened up some huge holes for him.”

Eckstrom’s punt return and Cole Kellogg’s first of two successful point-after tries pushed the lead to 13-0 with five minutes gone in the first quarter.

Bauer’s pick-6 made it 20-0 early in the second quarter and he tacked on another TD on a 1-yard plunge to send the Knights into the locker room at halftime with a 27-0 lead.

After intermission, Pascuzzi and Lookenhouse connected on a 20-yard touchdown pass and Lindell scored on a 1-yard run, both in the third quarter, pushing the advantage to 41-0.

The mercy rule was put into play after that and both teams put in their younger players to close out the game.

Eisenhower will take on Cambridge Springs next week.

Starting at $3.50/week.
