JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown and Area Oldtimers were swept by South Hills of Pittsburgh, 17-14 and 12-4, at Diethrick Park on Sunday.
Jon Sitler collected three hits; Wade Nelson, Brian Ferry, Ted Wyberanec and Nate Welker all added three; and Winston Woodard added a double for Oldtimers in the opener, a game in which they trailed 17-2 at one point.
In the sixth inning, the hosts scored six times to close the gap to 17-8, and then they rallied for six more in the seventh, highlighted by Sitler’s two-run single, but South Hills hung on for the victory.
South Hills led 12-2 in the second game and rolled to its sixth win in seven games.
Sitler finished with four hits, including a triple; Ed Baldensperger had three; and Roy Luksch chipped in two for the Oldtimers (4-4), who will return to action this Sunday when they travel to Boardman, Ohio to take on the Poland Fog.
Golf leagues
RUSSELL — Traden Gray and Austyn Cummings combined for 86.5 points to lead the Fitch Disposal League at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
In a tie for second place were the teams of Richard Michael and Bubby Michael as well as Teriqu Strudwick and Terrius Strudwick with 78 points. Rick Thomas and Rod Retterer tied Bob Lindquist and Byron Jesperson for third with 75.5 points.
Gray and Cummins combined for the low gross (32) and low net (30).

RUSSELL — Sharon Birtcil had a scratch 40 and net 32 to lead the A Flight during the Ladies League at Blueberry Hill Golf Club.
Barb Hill hit 14 putts to win the tournament in the A Flight. Hill also had a scratch 42, Deb Niederriter had a net 33 and Birtcil hit 15 putts.
In the B Flight, Mary Mackey had a scratch 47 and net 32 while Cindy Paulmier had a scratch 48. Jeana Morrison and Susan Wilson had net 33s. Rose Colucci won the tournament with 13 putts while Jody Christensen and Lori Eaton hit 14.
Jen Dilks led the C Flight with a scratch 45 and net 28. Karen Beardsley had the second-best scratch (46) and net (29) scores. Donna Zarcizny hit 14 putts and Dilks hit 15.
Terry Borger’s scratch 51 led the D Flight while Janis Bennett and Sue Shields had 54s.
Borger also had a 31 net while Becky Carlson and Deb Sumner had 33s. Bennett and Borger hit 16 putts while Carlson and Becky Olofson hit 17.
Cindy Lodestro’s scratch 51 and net 27 led the E Flight. Jennie Caldwell and Vicki Williams shot scratch 55s while Caldwell had a net 31. Williams hit 17 putts and Lodestro hit 18.
Linda Dies paced the F Flight with a scratch 55 and net 27. Crystal Howe was second with a scratch 60 and net 30. Judy Gibson and Howe both hit 18 putts while Dies hit 19.
Tammy Lauger’s scratch 68 led the G Flight while Amanda Slattery had a net 35. Sue Scalise shot a scratch 69 and Lauger shot a net 36.
Closest to the pin at No. 4 went to Kathy Blackman, who was 8 feet, 7 inches away from the pin.
Hole-in-one
RUSSELL — Bryce Hinsdale made a hole-in-one at the 192-yard fifth hole at Cable Hollow Golf Course on Wednesday using his 5-iron. The shot was witnessed by his brother, Gerrit Hinsdale.
Trap leagues
In the Warren County Trap League, Tidioute downed Kalbfus 344-310, Pine Grove got by Brokenstraw 343-340, Sheffield topped Corry 340-326 and Sugar Grove scored 332 in their bye week.
Perfect 50s were scored by Tidioute’s Ken Anderson and John Kanyuck, Pine Grove’s Brian Ecelberger and John P. Foster, Brokenstraw’s CJ Jones and Sheffield’s Shawn Nystrom, who hit his first 50 straight.
Sheffield’s Gavin Dasher was High Junior with a 48. Pine Grove’s Jacob Franklin was High Sub Junior with a 45. Pine Grove’s Cindy Cable was High Lady with a 49. Pine Grove’s Bob Gray and Sheffield’s Lee Dunkle shot matching 49s for High Veteran honors. Foster was High Sr. Veteran with his 50. Anderson and Kanyuck were High Super Sr. Veterans with their 50s.
