Warren well represented on Region 5 all-star teams
Warren’s Lady Dragons softball team finished with a 12-5 record (11-3 in Region 5) and garnered five all-stars by a vote of the region’s coaches.
First-team Region 5 all-stars included senior Alix Lytle at catcher, senior Katie Madigan at shortstop and junior Alexis Hoffman in outfield.
Lytle had four home runs and 19 RBIs and struck out just three times in 58 plate appearances. She batted .333 (16 for 48) with 10 of her hits going for extra bases. Defensively, she threw out eight potential base stealers.
Madigan hit .350 (21 for 60) with one homer and 13 RBIs out of the leadoff spot. She had eight stolen bases and scored 16 runs in 16 regular-season games. She struck out just twice in 64 plate appearances.
Hoffman hit .415 (22 for 53) with seven extra-base hits and six RBIs. She scored 14 runs and did not commit an error on the season.
On the second team was freshman pitcher Alana Stuart, whose remarkable first high school season ended in a 12-inning playoff loss in which she threw all 12, striking out 17 with one walk. She finished the season with a 2.19 earned run average and 138 strikeouts in 107 innings.
Warren junior first baseman Carly Beers was also voted to the second team. She committed two errors with a .950 fielding percentage. Offensively she scored 11 runs with nine RBIs, batting .255 (12 for 47).
“It’s nice to see these girls get the recognition they deserve,” said Warren head coach Carissa Stuart. “We had a solid season and it’s nice to see that other people see it, too. Alix, especially being a senior, has put a lot of work in throughout her high school career. She plays with a lot of heart. Katie is a true all-around great athlete in every sport she plays. She gives a hundred percent all the time. Lexi came out swinging the first game and had a stellar season. Carly was solid defensively and offensively. She was clutch so many times. Alana did her thing every game, keeping teams off the bases and scoring runs for us. Great accomplishment for them and our team.”
